Deer Camping

Reagan has been begging to go "deer camping" with PawPaw and Riley, so on Saturday morning, she got her chance! I needed a babysitter because I had an event at church. (I actually had one lined up, and she ended up with a conflict. I will also post about the church event. God was definitely at work.)

SO PawPaw came by and picked up the kids to take them to the deer camp. I went to my event. Then I drove to the deer camp as well. As always, attire is of utmost importance to the girl. She definitely dressed the part. Of course, as soon as possible she was peeling off the camo to reveal her Barbie long johns. (Did I mention that was at the GAS STATION where we had our delicious PIZZA supper after the hunt?)

I told them to make their best deer hunter face!

One of the traditions of going to the deer camp is stopping at Wal-mart and "grocery" shopping. I use quotations, because these are the groceries my children picked out.

I asked what the jar of chocolate icing is for. Reagan, "Because I like chocolate icing!" Ahhh, a girl after her mom's own heart. Although, I would have purchased the cake mix to go with it. Just to make the mix and eat it raw. MMMM!
Ok, so skip ahead to the hunt.

Reagan and I in one shooting house and PawPaw and Riley in another.

Entertaining ourselves by trying to take a picture of ourselves!

She was squirmy and hungry and thirsty the first hour. I was wondering how I / she was going to survive till dark, but then despite our noisiness, a spike ("a spikey" as Reagan calls them) appeared to our left. Reagan FROZE! She ducked down, because she didn't think she could be still enough. She looked up every once in a while. He would stop eating and stare at us. (She does a great imitation of it.)

At one point, she looked up at me and asked, "Is he still looking at me?"

Followed by, "Shoot him, Mama. Shoot him while he's eating!"

I had already asked her if I should shoot him or just take a picture. She answered, "Shoot him and then take a picture."

I wish I had taken a notebook and pen to write down everything she said. It was priceless!

We watched the deer for a long time, then I took a picture and scared him off. It was awesome and I hope to have more moments like these with each of my kids.

Spikey
Soon after Spikey ran off, PawPaw and Riley showed up. Riley had shot (Paw Paw holding the gun, Riley pulling trigger) a spike, he struggled, and got up and ran off. They looked for him, but couldn't find him. He was disappointed, but hyped up at the same time.

All in all a very fun and adventurous day!

The groceries are great. I love how they chose Sprite, because it's caffeine free.

Hunting with the kids? You are SuperMom forever, in my book. :)
