'Twas the Night Before Second Grade

.... and all through the house, the kids are sleeping. I am so glad that Riley fell asleep around 8 tonight. We had "meet the teacher" this morning at 8 am and he DID NOT want to get out of bed at 7am. I am hoping that because he fell asleep earlier tonight, the wake up call will go better in the morning.

At dinner tonight, I mentioned to Reagan that Riley will go to school tomorrow.
Reagan: Where will I go?
Me: You will stay with Mommy.
Reagan: (fussing) but I want Riley, Mommy. I like Riley.
Me: He will be back tomorrow afternoon. He'll come home on the bus.
Reagan: But I want Riley. I like Riley!

Well, at least she likes him. :)

Which reminds me of an incident a few days ago. Riley semi-tackled / hugged Reagan. She squealed a complaint. Riley said, "I just want to hug you Reagan." They hugged and Reagan replied, "You're my best friend, Riley." OOOOO, melt my heart!!

Best Friends playing "camp" last week.

They played for about 2 hours. They were the camp leaders and the stuffed animals were the campers. It was hilarious to listen to their little imaginations. Also, notice the accessories on little Reagan. Necklace, hair bow... I am surprised the Ariel lip gloss didn't make it in the picture. On Sunday morning on the way to church we were discussing what "jewelry" (plastic, that is) she could and couldn't wear to church. She got silent for a moment; then she asked, "Mommy, do you have any lip gloss?" Many of my friends know that I apply lipstick (and all other make up products for that matter) once a day, IF THAT. So, no, dear, I do not have any lip gloss, but maybe I should reconsider my make up policy.

We've had fun these last few days of summer. Saturday we went to the zoo. I wish I had taken my camera. Every time I thought about taking a picture, I pretended to take a picture with my empty hand. We took our time and enjoyed our day at the zoo. Sunday after church Ed, Sallie, Hunter, and Brantley came over to swim in the neighborhood pool. Sallie and I talked about Disney World while Ed played with the kids. Mental note for next summer -- buy 4 boat rafts! On Monday we went to the water park and I did take a camera, but it is one of those disposable deals, so I have to wait to post the pictures. I hope I got some cute ones. At the end of our day, we bought a funnel cake, and let me tell you, it was the biggest funnel cake I have ever seen. Riley and I enjoyed the cake while Reagan ate the powdered sugar clumps. She called them "salt."

Conversation on the way to the water park:
Riley: Mommy, I want to get a drum set for Christmas.
Me: Ok, but you have to take lessons to learn how to play them. (Thinking that would be a deterrent.)
Riley: Ok, as long as it is with other kids.
Reagan: I want to play the shake shakers. I want to take lessons. (I thinks she means maracas.)
Riley: Mommy, what instrument do you like to play?
Me: Well, I took piano lessons for a while as a kid; then I played the saxophone when I was a little older.
Reagan: OOOO! I like the saxophone. It make me shake my boodie!

Oh, and today, Hunter and Brantley came over to play! They had the best time making forts (one for girls and one for the boys), watching TV (on separate TVs)... do you see the pattern here?

The kiddie table on Sunday night.

The Princess on her Royal Throne, and yes, that cup of milk did indeed fall off the table a little later in the evening!
