Relaxing Day

We went to God's House first thing this morning and we all learned a lot. I am reading Desiring God by John Piper with my Sun Sch class and I just have to share the following statement with you all. He has said this over and over in this book, but it needs to be read over and over and over until it really sinks in and I make changes in my life.

"...It is not that we are all trying to please ourselves, but that we are all far too easily pleased. We do not believe Jesus when he says there is more blessedness, more joy, more lasting pleasure in a life devoted to helping others than there is in a life devoted to our material comfort. And therefore the very longing for contentment which ought to drive us to simplicity of life and labors of love contents itself instead with the broken cisterns of prosperity and comfort."

What it says to me:

I am too easily pleased with stuff in my life. I am turned toward the broken cisterns, drinking from filthy water and thinking I am being satisfied. When all the while, Jesus is ready to bless me with fresh water and more joy and more lasting pleasure, if I will just turn to Him. I get this on the big scheme of life, but on the day to day, it is tougher.

On a lighter note....

At lunch today:

Me: What did you learn in Sunday School today, Reagan?

Riley: Noah's Ark?

Reagan: No, sheep.

Riley: Oh, I know. Is it the one about where Jesus tells the story about how one sheep got lost and they celebrated when it was found? Was there a party at the end of the story, Reagan?

Reagan: Yeah. The sheep was lost. It was stuck in a tree like this. (Sticking her head down under the table.)

Riley: Yeah, that was in the Old Testament, no the New Testament, because Jesus was telling the story and Jesus is in the New Testament.

I just sat there with my mouth open.

After Reagan's nap, we took a ride on the golf cart. Riley made a list of all the places he wanted to go and what he wanted to do on our adventure. We caught tadpoles and played on the playground, but the highlight of the outing was when Reagan spotted a huge turtle in the drainage ditch. I didn't believe her at first, I figured it was a big rock. Riley went to check it out and he held up a turtle that was as big as both my hands. He is his father's son! He never hesitated. Of course I lectured him a little, because he should have checked with me first to be sure it wasn't a snapping turtle (like I could tell the difference!). In our prayers tonight, we thanked God for letting us see that big turtle!

I was swinging Reagan on the playground while Riley searched the creek for more turtles, lizards and tadpoles. Reagan asked what he was doing, so I told her. She said, "I want to catch a Dora toy. A Dora toy and a lee-zard."

When we got home, I told them if they ate their supper well and quickly, they could play outside again afterwards. Riley rushed into the house, washed his hands, then set the table (butter knife, spoon and fork at each seat). He stepped back and said, "Look, Mommy, just like they do it in movies!"

Ok, so we don't set the table every night, but come on Riley, you have seen it more than just in movies...

Completely changing the subject, have you noticed the site meter? I am watching you! Ha - Ha. It does make me wonder who is checking the ole blog in Salt Lake City and Picayune, MS and Satellite Beach, FL. Most of the other locations, I recognize. I'd love to hear from you, fell free to comment at any time!! I am looking into creating a way that you can register with my blog and you could be e-mailed when I make a post. I noticed that option on a friend's blog.... I am checking into it. Would you be interested?

Hey Wendy!

It was so good to hear how God spoke to you this morning through the words of John Piper. I am praying that our church would really believe God and take Him at His Word. We would see blessings we never knew possible.

In his presence is fullness of joy and at his right hand are pleasures for evermore" (Psalm 16:11).

Blessings,
Brittnie
